Manchester, Ct 4th alarm 10/12/13

Manchester, Ct responded to 801 Main St at 2130 hours for a report of smoke in the hallway with smoke outside to the rear of the building also. After Car 22 checked the rear of the building and had smoke and sparks from the roof he transmitted the working fire. Members then reported heavy fire in the basement but were having difficulties locating the seat of the fire. The fire then got into the walls and traveled up in this century old building. At one point seven departments were on scene operating 4 tower ladders, 2 ladder pipes, 2 portable guns and numerous hand lines. Because I was at work I arrived about 90 minutes into the fire.
